Models on the Beach Film by Willy Vanderperre

We present a short film by Willy Vanderperre, starring Cameron Russell, and offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at Vanderperre's shoot for AnOther Magazine A/W13, styled by Olivier Rizzo

The latest issue of AnOther Magazine – guest edited by Olivier Rizzo – saw the iconic stylist pair up with his frequent collaborator and long-term partner Willy Vanderperre for a very special and personal shoot, set in a particular spot on the Antwerp riverbanks that marks a passage of their youth. The resulting photographs show an androgynous selection of beatific models (Elise Crombez, Daiane Conterato, Cameron Russell, Emily Didonato, Nic Smith, Isak Julin and Biu Rainey) drifting and dawdling on the sandy shores, alternately standing or reclining on white plastic garden chairs. They are decked predominantly in monochrome, interrupted only by occasional smatterings of brightly-hued body paint and striking cameo appearances by a number of elaborate silk and vinyl adorned costumes, designed by Fabio Zambernardi for Filippo Timi's stage production of Il Don Giovanni.

Here, we present a short film by Vanderperre offering a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot and starring the beautiful Cameron Russell, who has fronted campaigns for the likes of Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Armani and Prada. As we are introduced to the models, Russell tells the story of a childhood trip where her mother allowed her to choose their vacation spot. "I picked this crazy cross-country bus and it was [filled with] all these hippie 17 to 25-year-olds... and then me and my mum," she laughs. "I was 12 and she was 45 and everyone [apart from us] was smoking weed and doing what 21-year-olds do." This less-than-conventional holiday choice is not out of character for the renegade model who recently impressed and outraged in equal measure when she spoke out against the elitist nature of the fashion world at a TEDx talk.
