To kick start AnOthermag.com turning pink for Valentine's Day, we take a moment to consider the enduring appeal of pink hair, and speak to promoter of pink and celebrated hair stylist and colourist, Lyndell Mansfield.

There are countless brilliant pink hair moments in history. Kate Moss has sported the colour on numerous occasions, notably in theĀ iconic images by Juergen Teller in the 1990s and her cover for the A/W09 issue of AnOther Magazine. AnOther's fashion director Katie Shillingford is also a loyal fan, choosing it as her hair colour for her wedding two years ago. And last Sunday, Dame Helen Mirren became the latest to join the pink hair brigade, debuting her new look at the BAFTAs.

Here, AnOther speaks to Austalian-born Mansfield about her love of pink...

What do you love most about the colour pink?
I have a love affair with colour full stop. I consider black and white to be two of my favourites. But when it comes to pink, it has a profound effect on me and the people around me. It somehow always makes you smile, even if its a grimace!

When did you first colour your own hair pink?
I started doing girls hair in the toilets at my school. That's when I first used food colouring to make my hair pink. We could change it and wash it out so as not to get in trouble.

What's your favourite pink hair moment in history?
There are so many. Pink rinsed Grannies and The Punks are my first memories and have influenced me a lot. My top 3 are: Shirley Maclaine in What A Way To Go (1964), Madonna performing on Top Of The Pops (1984) and Kate Moss for Versace (1998).
