A blunt bob  – it sounds pretty dull. Yet the bobs at Rick Owens's S/S13 show were nothing short of extraordinary. Created by Luigi Mureno, the memorable look was created by using a series of thick, soft frizzy wigs in varying shades, cut bluntly at an angle. Owens' soft silhouette and liquid, iridscent palette was the perfect contrast. "I wanted there to be a warmth and a softness and, if possible, a kindness,” said Owens backstage, a designer renowned for his gothic aesthetic.

More than any other hairstyle, bobs have become an iconic style throughout history. Think Louise Brooks, a young Grace Coddington, Rei Kawakubo, Yayoi Kusama and Anna Wintour.

"Each wig was unique to the girl and in the colour palette of the Vienna Secession artists – it felt like modernity from a former time"

"The combination of austere flatness on top of the head, with the soft frizz and bounce of the hair as the models walked, and the razored, angular finish, felt so original and cool", explains fashion editor Agata Belcen. "Each wig was unique to the girl and in the colour palette of the Vienna Secession artists – it felt like modernity from a former time." Owens also took inspiration from the work of Gustav Klimt. The women is paintings had thick black bobs which juxtaposed with the golden palette of the rest of his image.
