Louis Vuitton Fetish Pump

Patent Monogram canvas, black patent leather toe cap, 9.5cm heel

"A brand like Louis Vuitton is very fetish," remarked Alister Mackie, creative consultant to the brand's menswear line, the day before their S/S17 show. "You gotta have it." Never has this statement been quite so apt as when applied to the house's Fetish Pump: a shoe formed from their emblematic monogram canvas and complete with pointed patent toe and four-inch stiletto. In fact, the glossy ("fetish") canvas dates back to A/W11, when Marc Jacobs explicitly aligned the Louis Vuitton womenswear collection with kink: employing everything from plasticised lace and shiny cordovan belts, to abundant allusions to 1957 film The Night Porter and bondage. There, motifs of discipline and punishment reigned supreme – and perhaps that is what makes these shoes so good, too. They team dominatrix glamour with the agonising desirability that such a brand can inspire; a magnetic combination of luxury fetishism and the more commonly understood meaning of the term. As Mackie said, "you gotta have it." We submit.
