Cellophane marks the end of a three-year hiatus from music

After posting various hints on her Instagram account, this morning saw the release of the video for FKA twigsCellophane, marking the end of three-year hiatus since her M3LL155X EP in 2015. Produced by Jeff Kleinman and Michael Uzowuru – who have both previously worked with Frank Ocean – the stripped-back Cellophane marks a new chapter for the artist: “Throughout my life I’ve practiced my way to being the best I could be, it didn’t work this time,” she wrote on Instagram. “I had to tear down every process I’d ever relied on. Go deeper. Rebuild. Start again.”

The accompanying video is directed by visual artist Andrew Thomas Huang, a previous collaborator with Björk, and sees twigs performing a pole-dancing routine she has reportedly rehearsed for months, before decending into a cyber-world dreamt up by herself and Huang. “When I wrote ‘Cellophane’ over a year ago a visual narrative came to me immediately, I knew I had to learn how to pole dance to bring it to life, and so that’s what I did,” she wrote on Instagram. “Thank you Andrew Thomas Huang, for elevating my vision beyond words. You are a visionary.”
