It was all about footwear on day one of London fashion week. Charles Anastase’s models teetered down the catwalk on towering platforms (ankle and thigh high) appearing all flirtatious and girly in small swingy dresses, a charmeuse playsuit with frilled hem and eveningwear that appeared like underwear. J.W Anderson, renowned for his spectacular footwear – his S/S11 menswear collection included festival boots with a Swarovski toe and for A/W10 floral combat boots – dressed models in hiking boots with moustache-like white fur. This rather masculine attribute reinforced the collection’s overall unisex feel, which played with androgyny in its tailoring, suiting and cuts. Louise Gray’s over-the-knee boots came in a carnival of colours and prints just like her garments. The shy or understated need not apply: Gray’s A/W11 collection featured an incredibly vibrant and wildly eclectic array of outfits – the most fun of the season yet. Huge balloons and multi-coloured face paint added to the aptly entitled collection Up Your Look.
