A rather casual start to New York Fashion week on day one came in the relaxed silhouettes of Richard Chai and Tim Hamilton’s A/W11 collections. Chai presented a grungy look in a subdued pallette of greys, taupe and navy for his ancillary line, Richard Chai Love. His menswear inspired womenswear included heavily layered and oversized masculine outerwear in the form of elongated blazers, tweed overcoats and slouchy trousers. Tim Hamilton’s collection featured both menswear and womenswear. Mixing street style tailoring with vibrant prints and a sporty aesthetic, Hamilton paid reference to numerous sub-cultural groups in a celebration of anarchic youth as well as artist Ross Bleckner.
