Cut was key on the first day of Paris fashion week: inspired by “the handsome woman” Dries Van Noten brought his beauties down the catwalk in oversized masculine tailoring. Plus-sized tuxedos and cotton shirts were juxtaposed with more feminine pieces that included floral silks, sheer fabrics, pink dip-dying and powdery coloured heels. Over at Hakaan a whitewash of clothes made up the majority of his S/S11 collection, which ranged from thigh-high body cons to floor sweeping dresses. Midriffs made a bold entrance whether exposed or lightly covered, most notably in his all-in-one with its peek-a-boo diamond middle. With dynamic lines and a glamorous feel it was no surprise that he chose Daria Werbowy to open his show, followed by the commanding Natalia Vodianova, Sasha Pivovarova and Lindsey Wixson.
