What's over? And what's to come for 2015? Editor Laura Bradley considers elements of living, entertainment and style

There’s only a few hours left of 2014, so no better time than to take a moment to think about all those things we’ve had enough of (for now) and to predict what’s going to feel right next year.

THAT IS SO 2014…

Prosecco
When every supermarket is offering a bottle for less than £10, some even less than £5, it’s surely reached saturation point? There was a time when champagne was the drink of choice for special occasions, followed by cava. Imagine taking a bottle of cava to a party now? This festive season, sales of prosecco have been up 45 per cent in the UK. Consider adding a splash of elderflower liqueur, Chambord or sloe gin to your prosecco to show you are one step ahead.

Cacti and Succulents
We love them, and we have wholeheartedly embraced them the past couple of years. They are easy to keep, come in a variety of styles and look brilliant in old terracotta plant pots, but there isn’t a home/event/Instagram post that isn’t boasting a group of them. What's next? We are big fans of terrariums and bonsai. And anything that hangs, such as spider plants.

Visual Metaphors on Instagram
Michel Gaubert is brilliant at it, but we don’t need everyone on our feeds doing it. We know how Monday morning feels, please don't make it worse. Let’s focus on taking really brilliant, carefully considered images, and making clever use of the filter app VSCO Cam. There is simply no excuse for poor images these days.

Avocado
It seems every breakfast menu, and every morning plate on Instagram featured an avocado. And there were countless ways of describing and serving them – smashed, sliced, mixed with wholegrain mustard... In 2015, let us refocus our breakfast attention on eggs. A good place to start is Neil Rankin’s new venture, Bad Egg, a restaurant specialising in an international menu of dishes like North African baked eggs, Malaysian egg sambal (with galangal, dried shrimp and chilli) as well as a reworked full English.

NOW THAT FEELS VERY MODERN…

Marble and Glass
It feels like marble is really about to have a moment. Perfect in kitchens and bathrooms it is cool, clean and chic. Keep an eye out for beautiful marble accessories – Crate and Barrell have an excellent selection. And don't miss this excellent film courtesy of NOWNESS to get you in the mood. Glass also feels exciting – think elegant paperweights (like these), amber glass and cut crystal glasses.

Bare-faced Beauty
Céline campaigns are always a good indicator of what’s to come . Philo’s latest campaign for Resort 2015, shot by Tyrone Lebon for the first time, features a close-up of Daria Werbowy. She is sporting a bare-faced look, hair scraped back, her face is shiny. It makes us want to throw away our make-up bag and invest in brilliant face creams. And a bottle of Benetint.

Kitchen Porn
In the past, a bowl of fruit or a vase of flowers would have been the focus point of a kitchen. Think of other sexy kitchen items that can be showcased – butter (Lescure, for example) , or elegant fruit (lychees, for example) and nuts.

Aperitfs
We can’t think of anything better to drink next year than a delicious aperitif or a digestif. Hailing from Italy, the drinks are intended to aid digestion, to enhance the overall experience of dining. Stay away from Aperol (too 2014) and try a white negroni or a garibaldi. Head to Bar Termini on Old Compton Street in Soho, Tony Conigliaro and Marco Arrigo's amazing coffee and aperitivo bar.

Stay tuned for a brand new new anothermag.com, coming early 2015.
