We take an exclusive look at the moodboard inspiration behind Valentino's Haute Couture collection

For those dreaming of a white Christmas, snow fell a little earlier last night on the Valentino catwalk. The fashion house unveiled an exclusive all-white Haute Couture collection to celebrate the new Valentino flagship store on Fifth Avenue, New York, designed by David Chipperfeld.

“White has a tendency to make things visible” — Robert Ryman

Described as a non-colour show, the all-white collection was inspired by the work of Robert Ryman, an American painter who made his name in the 1950s and 60s for his minimalist white-on-white paintings. “White has a tendency to make things visible,” he wrote. “With white, you can see more of a nuance; you can see more.” Valentino also looked to its own archives, taking inspiration from Valentino editorials from the 1960s, and the essence of New York during the decade. A key inspiration for the collection was Jackie Kennedy, who was loyal to the fashion house, and indeed the colour white, throughout her life. The Valentino lace wedding gown that she wore in 1968 to marry Aristotle Onassis remains one of the most replicated garments of all time. Here, AnOther take an exclusive look at the moodboards for Valentino Haute Couture.

The Valentino Flagship Store is open now at 693 Fifth Avenue, New York.
