Chanel S/S15: In Karl Lagerfeld's Own Words

In an exclusive video, Karl Lagerfeld explains the Chanel S/S15 collection, from gender-blurring details to the link between fashion and feminism

For Chanel S/15, Karl Lagerfeld staged his biggest and most controversial spectacle yet with a colossal feminist protest, his models marching through a Chanel-made boulevard within the Grand Palais to the beat of Pet Shop Boys — I’m Not Scared. Gisele Bündchen and Cara Delevingne led the riot, alongside Georgia May Jagger and Sam Rollinson, brandishing placards with tongue-in-cheek slogans such as “History is Her Story” and “Be Your Own Stylist”.

While the show received a huge reaction, it feels as though amidst the chanting, scaffolding, signposts and Cara’s quilted megaphone, the details of the collection have become slightly lost. The Shakespearean Bertha collars, the intricate pleating and the subtle play on masculine tailoring, as Lagerfeld reinvigorated the signature Chanel jacket by placing the button stand on the right hand-side. These were worn with Bermuda shorts and gender-blurring brogues that have since gained cult status online. Here, in an exclusive video, Karl Lagerfeld defends his “fashion demonstration” and explains the codes of the collection.
