This week's Happy Monday is an amazing project by artist Corey Bartle-Sanderson, disguising and revealing fruit to mesmerising effect
This week, we're getting our kicks from a brilliant series, entitled Supermarket Simulacrum, by artist Corey Bartle-Sanderson which sees pieces of fruit painted to mirror the white marble background upon which they sit. The works come in pairs, the first image showing the fruit almost completely disguised by its marbled coating, the second showing it sliced open or peeled to reveal its interior, in vibrant contrast to the greyish white. "When we look at the everyday objects we don’t stop to think about them, in ways of colour, shape and form," Bartle-Sanderson explains of his motives behind the series, "we just accept what they are, no questions are asked. With Supermarket Simulacrum I wanted to challenge this idea." And he's certainly suceeded; as we're sure you'll agree, fruit has rarely looked so good.
