AnOther discusses holidays, presents and 2014 anticipation with Maja Salamon, star of our Resort Flash special
Maja Salamon is the star of AnOther’s pop-colour Resort Flash GIFs by Quentin Jones and fashion editor, Agata Belcen. Recognisable by her blonde hair and pale features, she will undoubtedly be a familiar face throughout fashion week next month. Originally from Poland, Salamon spent Christmas snowboarding in Zell Am See, Austria with her parents, brother Jonasz and cat Richard – or “Ryszard” in Polish. AnOther caught up with her to hear about her holiday and what she is most looking forward to in 2014.
What was one of the highlights of your Christmas holiday?
When we were snowboarding on the glacier, I unexpectedly met my friend from Poland, the model Magdalena Jasek. So the rest of the day we spent laughing.
Did you receive any unexpected gifts for Christmas?
My family decided not to go crazy about presents this year, so we are just giving each other small gifts, like books. And in fact, I prefer to give than receive.
You have mentioned before that you prefer vintage clothing. Do you have a favourite vintage shop?
Yes, I do love vintage. My favourite shop is actually located in my hometown in Poland and it is extremely cheap. People there don't realise the real value of the clothes they are selling. Recently I bought an amazing Jil Sander jacket for about 10 zloties (4 dollars).
Have you discovered any new shops lately that you would recommend?
Just today I saw a beautiful furniture shop in Florence. I have not had a chance to visit yet, but I will let you know when I do.
What is your favourite item of clothing at the moment?
My vintage baggy jeans and blue woollen jacket.
What is on your wish list for 2014?
A Prada feather bracelet and a life-time membership for Bikram Yoga Studio.
Do you have a New Year's Resolution?
I have resolutions every day, It doesn't matter if it is New Year or middle of June.
What are you most looking forward to in 2014?
I am really curious about Nicolas Ghesquière's first show for Louis Vuitton.
What keeps you going when you are travelling? Do you take any home comforts with you?
A great book, the latest issue of Polish Newsweek on my iPhone and a good sleep.
