Dan Thawley explains his love of Studio

Dan Thawley is the online editor of A Blog Curated by, the blog for print magazine A Magazine curated by. A Blog is a dynamic archive of information on all the avant-garde designers who have ever collaborated on an issue of A. He is also the in-house journalist for RA, a new concept space in Antwerp: a hybrid of fashion store, art gallery, book-store, music corner and restaurant. Last week, he loved and posted Studio, a new edition collection of two decades of portraiture by Paolo Roversi.

Why did you choose the book?
Paolo Roversi is one of the first photographers who inspired me, and proved to me that fashion images could transcend the ordinary. His work is such a departure from the over-retouched reality of most glossy, contemporary image-making – for me it captures the chiaroscuro of renaissance oils and the intensity and intimacy of human contact.

What's the last thing you bought?
The new Maison Martin Margiela white BIC pen with a goose feather, from the White Objects series. To inspire my writing.

What's your most treasured possession?
I like to believe in the transience of possessions, yet I would have to say that my grandfather's vintage Omega Seamaster watch has to be one of my favourite objects.

What's your favourite online shop?
RA is opening online (with Louise Goldin exclusively for A/W09) in the next few days, so keep an eye out on the website for a new link. Many things for Another LOVES I'm sure!
