It's been a special month at AnOther. As well as celebrating the arrival of fashion director Katie Shillingford's daughter, we have also welcomed a new four-legged member to the team. Wren, a miniature smooth haired daschund, owned by our senior fashion editor Sofia de Romarate.

The daschund, a small dog of German origin with a long body, short legs and long dropping ears, is a breed loved by a number of high-profile personalities. As well as Pablo Picasso's pet hound Lump, explored previously in the column, other notable owners include John F. Kennedy (Dunker), Andy Warhol (Archie and Amos), Queen Victoria (Waldie), John Wayne (Blackie) and David Hockney (Stanley and Boodgie). The breed can be traced back to ancient Egypt, where engravings were made featuring short-legged hunting dogs. In its modern incarnation, the dachshund is a creation of German breeders and includes elements of German, French, and English hounds and terriers.

"Wren came from a litter of five, born to Champion Captain Scarlet (award-winner at Crufts) and Carry on Cleo"

Bred in Wiltshire, Wren came from a litter of five, born to Champion Captain Scarlet (award-winner at Crufts) and Carry on Cleo. Aged 11 weeks, his current favourite toy is a soft squeeky fox and he enjoys an occassional bowl of scrambled eggs. He is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. When he is ready to venture outside, Wren will be making regular visits to AnOther HQ. Meanwhile, here are some of our favourite pictures of the little guy from the past few weeks.

And remember, a pet is for life, not just for Christmas.
