In the basement of the Marc by Marc Jacobs store on Audley Street London nestles Bookmarc – a stylish den of literary, musical and stationary treasures, hand selected by Marc et team, alongside a glamorous stock of iPad covers and digital accessories. The Marc by Marc stores have had, since their inception, a small section dedicated to books, which developed over time, until Jacobs opened his first Bookmarc store on New York’s Bleecker Street in September 2010, followed by Bookmarc Paris. Their range includes poetry, fiction, memoirs and cookbooks, and here we speak to worldwide BookMarc Director Jennifer Baker on her literary recommendations.

What kind of rare books can you find in the shop?
We stock an eclectic variety of rare books, differing from city to city. In Paris we have a bound collection of the first 12 issues of the underground Parisian magazine Facade & a beautiful Mondrian book packed with ephemera. London offers classic Avedon titles as well as a decent Punk/Pop Culture section. All books selected reflect the interests of the brand on some level.

What books would you recommend?

1) Winged Shoes and a Shield by Don Bajema – The bad boy poet's collection of stories has just been released by City Lights. Haunting, lyrical work...

2) The Kate Moss Book – "I like all 8 covers including our exclusive by Steven Klein. Possibly the sexiest photo & smartest design of the eight Rizzoli editions released.

3) The Manual (How to Have a Number One the Easy Way) by KLF – Amusing out of print guide to achieving hit single with no cash or skills.

4) The Vogue Book of House & Gardens –
The finest photo collection ever of the way the mega rich reside.

5) Night by Peter Hujar – Rich and haunting pictures of glorious darkness once seen in New York's Meatpacking district.

Bookmarc is open now at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mayfair.
