After the indulgences of Easter, one would imagine that the majority of us would be reluctant to look chocolate in the face again, but the AnOther Loves stream tells a very different story. However, gone are fluffy chicks, cute bunnies and the toothache inducing sweetness of a Cadbury’s Crème Egg – in happy correlation with the fearful superstitions surrounding Friday the 13th, this week’s most loved post takes the form of a ghoulish chocolate delight: Walnut Brains x Chocolate Skull. For something rather horrifying, it is surprisingly tantalising, with complex artistry shown in the delicately wrought cranium and diabolical grin, set off by the comedy of the brain-like walnut poking out the top.

Skulls have always played a prominent role in culture, generally acting as grim threats or memento mori such as the skull and crossbones symbol marking a poison bottle or the Jolly Roger flag strung from a pirate’s mast. In modern times, the skull has been treated with less veneration: used by Alexander McQueen for his iconic motif scarves and rendered in diamonds in For the Love of God by Damien Hirst – the most expensive artwork of modern times. As comestibles they are relatively rare but not unheard of – participants in Mexico’s Day of the Dead are known to exchange elaborately decorated skulls fashioned from sugar, amaranto and chocolate.

AnOther’s lover of the week is musician Lovefoxxx. Currently writing new songs in LA, Lovefoxxx took some time out to explain her ghoulish post and discuss her love of vegan chocolate and skate art.

Why did you choose to love these ghoulish confections?
I love how a brain looks and thought this skull and walnut was such a smart idea!

Would you eat them straight away or save them for the mantelpiece?
I would take a picture and eat it straight away.

What is your favourite chocolate brand?

I like Missionary Chocolates from Portland. My favorite is their vegan Lemon truffle and salted caramel.

How, where and when do you like to eat chocolate?
I never make a ceremony about it. I like eating with coffee or tea over some talking with friends.

Do you have a favourite use of skulls in art, fashion or culture?
I love the skulls on 80s and 90s skate art. They are the best skulls for my taste.

What is the last item you bought?

A Hunx and his Punx T-shirt at the merch table when I saw him playing 2 weeks ago!

What is your favourite online shop?

Is it going to be too boring if I say Amazon?
