This week, the most Loved product on AnOther Loves is a Lizard Magnifying Glass by L’Objet, chosen by New York-based editor Paul Wagenblast. An icon of detective fiction (where would Sherlock Holmes be without his?), the magnifying glass dates back to the 13th century when it was used to study the intricacies of insects. As technology has progressed, its application has extended into numerous areas: from its use in reading glasses, cameras and telescopes, to the microscope, where it has been crucial in the diagnosis of certain diseases and a vital tool in important surgical procedures.

Whilst this particular magnifying glass’ best use would be to sit elegantly on a mantelpiece or coffee table, like the rest of L’Objet’s luxurious home goods it is entirely functional should you wish to read fine print or inspect matters closely. Made by master craftsmen, all of L’Objet’s fine goods are created with the utmost opulence in mind, using materials ranging from 24kt gold to Swarvoski crystals.

Here we speak to Wagenblast about how he came across this lizard magnifying glass, why he chose to Love it and what other luxury interior products he has on his wish list…

Where did you first find this Lizard Magnifying Glass by L’Objet?
I found it while researching a shop in Seattle called Object. The curation and design of their shop is really interesting, I'm very curious to see it in person!

What made you choose to Love it?
It was so unexpectedly perfect and funny, and so beautiful. I loved seeing it in the context of this shop as well, it's sort of a funny brand to see in such contemporary company.

If you owned it, what would you use it for?
Heavy admiration and object appreciation.

Where would you keep it?
It would go straight on my Shelf of Beautiful Objects.

What other luxurious interior products are on your wish list and why?
One thing that's always been on my wish list is a big Morris armchair. My grandparents had one and when I think of the ultimate chair experience I always think of that one. I wouldn't say no to a bright and colorful Tulu rug though.

The magnifying glass is an icon of detective fiction – what is your favourite detective book or film?
I think the BBC's original Prime Suspect series, starring Helen Mirren, is some of the best crime fiction ever written.

What object or product best represents you?
Probably a really beautiful natural blue sapphire. I have one on a ring that I wear everyday and I feel like it's my spirit stone.
