What could be more of an indulgence than our most loved product of the week on AnOther Loves: Maison Martin Margiela's S/S10 “Candy” bag, as chosen by Adam Chen? Good enough to eat, the Candy bag – which comes in metallic pink, green, brown and gold, and in various sizes ranging from oversized clutch to wallet – features an embossed barcode and weight, ribbed zigzag trimming and silver candy wrapper interior. Worn tucked under a skinny waist belt on Margiela’s S/S10 womenswear catwalk, the oversized version from Line 13 costs £585 – a little bit more than the pocket change price of your average candy bar.

For S/S12 numerous fashion houses have been revisiting all things sugary and sweet for both their collections and campaigns. Louis Vuitton’s candy-coloured collection of broiderie anglaise dresses and embellished tweed skirt suits were given an extra sprinkle of sweetener when photographed by Steven Meisel in a pastel-hued ice cream parlour surrounded by syrupy sundaes. Mulberry took their British summer-themed collection to Brighton beach for their S/S12 campaign shot by Tim Walker. With props by Andy Hillman, the series of images feature oversized sticks of rock, striped paper sweetshop bags, melting ice-lollies and coned ice creams; beautifully mirroring the collection’s lemon, peppermint and chocolate colour palette.

Here we speak to Chen about his love of Maison Martin Margiela, how he wears his Candy bag and what his favourite sweets are…

What made you choose to Love this Maison Martin Margiela S/S10 Candy Bag?
I was really inspired by a recent article on Anothermag.com titled The Clutch Bag Trend, on the new fashionable way to carry a bag. I just thought it'd be the perfect bag to practise it with.

When, where and why did you first buy this and in what colour?
I bought the bag a couple of years ago when it came out – I had it in three different sizes, two of which are in pink while the other is in gold.

What do you wear it with and where to?
I wear it with almost anything! Ruffles, frills, pleats, faux fur, paddings, shiny metallic...

What do you keep in it?
Keys, my phone and my newly printed business cards.

What are your favourite sweets?
Haribo Tangfastics.

What do you like most about Maison Martin Margiela and which has been your favourite collection?
The fact that MMM constantly re-invents itself, which I think is essential for a brand to stay relevant. The iconic S/S08 collection is unarguably the best in recent years.

Do you own any other MMM pieces – if so what?
Yes. I always go for the obviously unwearable show pieces.

What do you think of MMM’s A/W12 collections?
It is refreshingly sophisticated. In a way it reminds me of what Margiela had designed for Hermès – the new MMM team is doing such a great job.
