Words are some of the best tools we have to express ourselves and interact with our loved ones. Some words have to be used in conjunction with other words in order to make sense, whereas others stand strong on their own, their meanings self-contained. These are the most powerful words – a point explored by American artist Jarrett Hendrix on his Instagram account @toolwords. The premise is a beautifully simple one: Hendrix takes tools and tool parts, as well as the occasional fridge magnet or jam jar, and constructs single, motivational words from them (often accompanied by a thoughtful quote, meditating upon the word and its meaning). The results are aesthetically pleasing and surprisingly invigorating; a lexical lift guaranteed to brighten up your Instagram feed and your day.
